Sustainable Golf Week 2024

The Aphrodite Hills PGA National Cyprus & GEO Certified Golf Course is proud to be part of the GEO Sustainable Golf Week 2024. After a successful approach of the events in 2022 & 2023, we are delighted to join the golf community for another insightful and inspiring week to showcase our environmental developments over the past year, and we are eager to find out more ways to improve and enhance our dedication to sustainable golf.

We can confidently say that 2024 is all about sustainability and environmental responsibility for Aphrodite Hills Resort.

Below are a few key accomplishments:

• Aphrodite Hills has been honoured with three prestigious awards: the ‘Silver Flag’ at the 59Club Excellence Awards, the title of ‘Best 18-Hole Golf Course in Cyprus’ by Leading Courses Golfers’ Choice, and a Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award.
• Aphrodite Hills has contributed to the community through various volunteer efforts, such as blood donation campaigns and tree-planting initiatives.
• Aphrodite Hills is committed to nurturing young talent. This summer, we welcomed three of our former junior golfers for internships – they are currently studying in the USA on golf scholarships. This opportunity allowed them to gain practical experience in various golf operations, including shop reception, course marshalling and golf course
• A highlight of our 2024 #golfforcommunities initiative was hosting the annual Cyprus Golf Federation Charity Event for ‘Special Olympics Cyprus’ on 9^th June 2024. This heartwarming event raised critical funds for the organisation, which empowers children and adults with intellectual disabilities through year-round sports training and competition.
• Our newly unveiled PGA National 6-hole, par 3 Academy Course was built to sustainable standards with plans to enhance the local habitat. This included adding the appropriate species, natural areas and a state-of-the-art irrigation system, set with individual functions to reduce water waste. Furthermore, during the construction, the Golf Maintenance Team installed to all eleven bunkers, the Capillary Flow Bunker Liner and Capillary Wash Box, to effectively move water the same way water moves in soil and sand; through capillary action and gravity.
• Further protect the biodiversity on the golf course by reducing the quantity of pesticides (fungicides and insecticides) and using more biostimulants on all of our greens.
• We have installed solar panels in the Clubhouse and maintenance areas, among many other benefits this became our source for renewable energy, reducing air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, the climate change process, electricity costs and reliance on fossil fuels.

We will continue to dedicate our time and energy to promote a sense of environmental responsibility to all of our teams and visitors and work towards reducing the overall impact on the climate.

The path to finding a balance between the environmental and economic factors for companies is challenging; however, we will always encourage education on climate action and support a responsible consumption whilst ensuring that the Resort is managed in a way that respects the environment and helps biodiversity flourish.
